it keeps telling me to go to Internet options, programs, then select email from the drop-down list, but the only choices are Outlook.

How can i make yahoo my default email service on Windows XP?
Yahoo doesn't show up on that list, cause it's web based mail and not actually installed on your computer.
The old solution of installing messenger, no longer works, either.
This link, from Yahoo, gives specific instructions on the "latest" steps to take in order to make Yahoo the default mail client. It includes the link for downloading their "newest" toolbar (which is necessary)
