How do I email my boss about returning to work?

I left my job for the summer to be a summer student full time. The last time I spoke with my boss it was through email, and in that email she stated "...and hope that you will be returning to us." I am now ready to return to work, but I cannot figure out how to start my email.

please help.
How do I email my boss about returning to work?
Dear Ms-----------

I refer to the last e.mail i received from you regarding my returning to you after my summer studies.

I have now completed same and look forward to hearing from you again with a view to my returning to work.

Yours sincerely,

Reply:Dear Boss:

The last time we spoke, you mentioned the possibility of my returning to work. The summer term is now over and I'd like to come in and discuss if that's still an option for me.

etc etc etc
Reply:Dear Boss,

I am very excited to tell you that my summer program has ended and I am ready to come back to work as previously discussed. I am hoping that this oppourtunity is still available.
Reply:Dear Boss,

I have compeleted my summer education, and I want to return to work.....etc
Reply:First of all, there has to be a position open that your boss has authority to fill. Unless she owns the company, I don't think that you should assume anything in your email. Start by saying your summer school has ended and explain why it was a valuable experience. Indicate that the classes you have taken have allowed you to achieve your goal of [fill in the blank]. End by saying how much you would appreciate it (greatly) if she would let you know if your old position is still open or if there are any other positions available for which you may be a good fit. Ask her if she will need you to update your resume and send it to her. Good luck!

The summer term is over, and I am now free to return to work. When might be a good time to start?
